Hello on this snowy Wednesday! Well if you are in NJ, you know it’s been snowing on and off all day making it very hard not to dream about sitting next to a fire while watching the snow from the inside. I need a fireplace!! This weather makes it very hard to get up early in the morning. I planned on getting up at 5 am today to go take a 5:30 am intense tone and sculpt class at the gym. However, I watched the series finale of Sons of Anarchy last night and I didn’t go to sleep until 1 am. This doesn’t leave many hours to sleep. So I decided to sleep in a little and do a mini work out at home. I didn’t have a lot of time this morning so I chose to focus just on my arms. I found a little inspiration from this work out courtesy of Peanut Butter FingersThanks Julie!!

Yes, I worked out in my pajamas and socks. Don’t judge. I try to workout at the gym or go running at least 5 days a week. However, if I don’t do either, I try to do something workout related to keep that momentum going and also it’s just good to move your body every day! So this workout took about 15 minutes and I didn’t feel too guilty about not making it to the gym. As you can see I keep a set of weights in my room so I can do a quick workout at home. I also use on demand a lot to find yoga classes or other fitness classes. You tube is great for this too! You can pretty much search for any type of workout you want and do it in your home. So you have no excuses not to workout! 🙂

After my workout, I showered and went to make a smoothie. I really try to eat seasonally as much as possible. Although I can’t get enough of watermelon and strawberries during the summer as they are my favorites, my love for pears, apples and other fall fare quickly take over once October hits. There is a reason why Mother Nature grows certain fruits and vegetables at certain times of the year. We were meant to eat them at that time of year because your body needs different nutrients and types of food during the different seasons. Think about how the things you crave during the fall and winter months are much different from the things you crave during the summer. If you never paid much attention before, then try to take note. I usually start craving warm stews and soups during the fall and winter months and lots of fruits and raw veggies during the summer. Who wants a bowl of stew in July? So I got another produce box from Purple Dragon this week. Another reason I love Purple Dragon is because their shares are all seasonal. Although I love strawberries, I get mad when I see them in the supermarket in the fall and winter. They are never sweet and are overpriced. It just seems wrong to buy them because it seems to go against what nature intended. Is it just me? Mother Nature is never wrong. So anyway there were a ton of pears and apples in this fruit and veggie box. I never think to add pears to a smoothie but I thought what the hell. This is the recipe I came up with:

2 small ripe pears (any kind will do.)
1 apple
1 banana
Almond or cashew milk (I used cashew because I just made a batch but I think any nut milk will be fine.)
Coconut water
The seeds from one pomegranate

Put everything in the blender and add just enough of the liquids to get things going so the smoothie stays thick.

Please note that I tried to be fancy and sprinkle some pomegranate seeds on the top to give the smoothie a little color but they sunk straight to the bottom of the glass. Fail. Maybe you will have better luck. This tasted pretty damn good! Very unexpected. Enjoy!

What is your favorite seasonal produce in the fall?
